Generals Zero Hour Wiki: Factions, Generals and Numbers from the Game Files

Runs on your phone: Generals · Zero Hour · Contra 009 · Contra 007
Updated 2026-09-25 · data from Zero Hour 1.04 game files

This Generals Zero Hour wiki covers the three factions (USA, China, GLA) and the nine generals added in the expansion. Costs, build times, health and damage come straight from the game's own INI files, version 1.04, and every page ends with advice for playing on a phone through ZeroFront.

The wiki is deliberately small: 13 pages. There is no separate card for each of the hundreds of objects in the game. Faction units sit in tables, and each general's page covers only what sets that army apart from the base faction.

The three factions

Each side in Zero Hour has its own economy and its own way of fighting. In short:

Faction Style Power Page
USA expensive precise vehicles, strong air force, drones required, reactor 800 USA army
China numbers and armor, fire, radiation, propaganda required, reactor 1000 China army
GLA cheap units, ambushes, toxins, tunnels no power plants GLA army

Besides the plain USA, China and GLA, the faction menu lets you pick one of nine generals. Each general's army is built on top of its faction: some units are replaced, some get cheaper or more expensive, and a few are removed entirely.

There is a tenth character, General Leang, known as "the Tigress". She commands a mixed army drawn from all three sides, but you only meet her as the final opponent in Generals' Challenge. She can't be picked for a normal game, so she has no page of her own here.

Where the numbers come from

Every value in the tables is taken from the Zero Hour 1.04 INI files, the same files the engine reads during a match. Cost is in in-game money, build time in seconds, health in hit points. Range and speed are in game units, exactly as they are stored in the files. Nobody converted them to meters.

Damage is listed per shot, before the target's armor is applied. A tank that deals 60 damage won't take exactly 60 off an infantryman: each armor type takes a different percentage from each damage type. So comparisons make sense inside one class, tank against tank.

We kept Generals' Challenge versions of units and cinematic copies from the campaign out of the tables. When an object exists in the files but can't be built in the game, the page says so.

How this wiki differs from others

We didn't retell other wikis or copy numbers from forum posts. What we did differently:

  • values come from the Zero Hour 1.04 files, not from a summary;
  • every general is compared with the base army: what costs less, what costs more, what is missing;
  • every page has a section on how the faction plays on a phone.

Playing Zero Hour on a phone

The ZeroFront app runs the original Zero Hour on Android: the 2003 engine, built for phones. You connect your own game files from Steam or the EA App. The full picture is on the Zero Hour for Android page.

Controls are touch gestures. A tap selects a unit, a double tap selects every unit of that type on screen, and press-and-drag draws a selection box. On the left there is a group bar from 0 to 9 that replaces Ctrl+number. Every gesture is explained on the touch controls page.

The faction changes how comfortable it is to play with your fingers. As the USA, two or three groups of expensive units are usually enough. China and GLA field bigger armies, and you will use the group bar constantly. The faction pages go into this in more detail.

FAQ

Which faction is easiest for a beginner?

USA or China is the usual advice. US units are durable and forgive mistakes, and China plays a straightforward tank game. GLA asks for constant control of many small squads.

Do these numbers apply to mods like Contra?

No. Mods rewrite the INI files, and Contra 009 has its own balance and its own units. These tables describe the original Zero Hour 1.04 only.

Is General Leang in this wiki?

Only as a mention on this page. Leang appears only as an opponent in Generals' Challenge, and you can't play her in a regular skirmish.

Can I play the generals on a phone?

Yes. ZeroFront runs the original Zero Hour, so all nine generals are in the skirmish menu, the same as on a PC.
