The Contra 007 USA side is played only through its generals, and there are four of them. The regular Zero Hour US army isn't in the menu: its slot went to the new General Ironhand and his robots. Granger, Townes and Alexander stayed, but each got an army of their own with new vehicles. Below are the costs, health and weapons of every unit from the mod files, the main buildings, the real prototypes and tips for playing on a phone. The general overview of the mod and the comparison with 009 are on the main page of the Contra 007 wiki.
How the Contra 007 US army differs from Zero Hour
The numbers are taken from the INI files of Contra 007 and Zero Hour 1.04:
- There is no base side. The side the files simply call America belongs to Ironhand.
- The Command Center costs 2500 instead of 2000 and has the same 5000 health.
- Build time almost always equals the cost divided by 100. The Laser Crusader for 800 builds in 8 seconds, while the Crusader in Zero Hour cost 900 and took 10.
- Colonel Burton costs 2000–2500 and takes 1000 damage. In Zero Hour he cost 1500 with 200 health.
- The Ranger went up to 250–300 and got a rifle dealing 9 instead of 5, but has 150 health instead of 180.
- The Avenger costs 800–1200; in Zero Hour it cost 2000.
- The Particle Cannon takes 100 seconds to build instead of 60. The price is the same 5000, except for Alexander, who gets it cheaper: 3500 and 70 seconds.
Contra 007 US generals
Costs, build times and health are taken from the mod's INI files. Damage is per shot of the main weapon, range is in game units. Builders and the Chinooks that gather supplies are left out of the tables.
General Ironhand: Robots
Ironhand exists only in Contra. The mod's dossier says his robots move fast and are immune to toxins, radiation, neutron weapons and Jarmen Kell. His base is built by the Builder Mech for 1000, and almost all his vehicles are cheap, starting at 600. The army's centerpiece is the Fafnir for 7000, with an energy shield in front. The Drone Controller launches up to five combat drones.

General Granger: Air Force
Granger has twelve aircraft types, more than any general in the mod. His dossier recommends the F-16XL against infantry and builders and the Aurora Alpha against buildings. The longest range among US units belongs to the B-4 Chimera bomber: its Tomahawks deal 175 at range 800. Aircraft are built by the Levitation Pad, and they all take off from it at once.

General Townes: Lasers
Almost all of Townes's vehicles fire lasers or plasma. The dossier names the Paladin and the Laser Crusader as the core of his army. At the top sits the Omega Cannon for 5000 with 1750 health; after an upgrade it hits for 800 at range 400. Lasers need power, so Townes has the Tokamak: 2500 for 60 units of power.

General Alexander: Weapons of Mass Destruction
Alexander doesn't have a single tank. Her dossier suggests building a strong defensive line and hitting the enemy with superweapons, and the build menu backs that up: five buildings for striking across the map and defending against such strikes. Her most important vehicle is the Shield Generator for 3000, which raises a shield that missiles and shells can't get through.

Reload times from the mod files: the Particle Cannon and the ICBM fire every 5 minutes, the Tomahawk Storm every 4, the Blackout Missile System every 7. The SDI Cannon shoots down enemy ballistic missiles, and the Communications Center calls in strategic bombers. Ironhand's Strategy Center is tougher than the others: 5000 health instead of 2500.
Real-world prototypes of Contra 007 US hardware
The Humvee, Comanche, Avenger, Microwave Tank, Aurora, F-117 and Chinook also exist in Zero Hour, and their prototypes are covered on the page about the USA army in the original game. Here we look only at what the mod adds.
- AMOS. A twin-barrel 120 mm mortar turret by the Finnish-Swedish company Patria Hägglunds. It has served with the Finnish army since 2007 and is fitted to the Patria AMV and CV90.
- MLRS/ATACMS. The American M270 MLRS has served with the US Army since 1983. Besides regular rockets it fires ATACMS tactical missiles with a range of up to 300 km. In the mod's files this vehicle took the Tomahawk's slot.
- MTHEL. A mobile version of the THEL combat laser that the USA and Israel developed from 1996. In 2000–2001 THEL shot down 28 Katyusha rockets and five artillery shells, but the project was closed in 2005.
- F-16XL. An experimental F-16 with a double-delta wing, first flown in 1982. Two were built, and in 1984 it lost the competition to the F-15E.
- F-18 Hornet. The carrier-based multirole F/A-18 Hornet, in service with the US Marine Corps since 1983.
- F-35 JSF. The fighter of the Joint Strike Fighter program. The production F-35A first flew in 2006 and joined the US Air Force in 2016, long after the mod came out.
- Dark Star. The prototype is the RQ-3 DarkStar stealth reconnaissance drone by Lockheed Martin and Boeing. It flew in 1996 and carried no weapons, just like in the mod, and the program was closed in 1999.
- C-27 Spartan. The Italian C-27J Spartan military transport. The Pentagon picked it in 2007, but by 2012 the US Air Force had decided to retire all of its aircraft.
- Made-up hardware. There is no prototype for Ironhand's robots (Fafnir, Spider Tank, Robo Raptor, Pegasus, Hecate), the Libra, the Omega Cannon, the Shield Generator, the AC-150 or the B-3 and B-4 bombers.
How to play the USA in Contra 007 on a phone
Contra 007 runs in ZeroFront. You get the mod in our Telegram bot under "Game files & mods", and the version and installation are covered on the Contra 007 for Zero Hour page. Network games only work with players who also run 007.
On a touch screen it's easiest to split the US armies into groups on the left bar:
- With Granger, keep bombers in group "1" and fighters in "2". A tap on an empty group saves the selection, and a double tap on a saved one selects it and moves the camera there.
- Ironhand's drones cost 600 each, so there are many of them. A double tap on a unit selects every unit of that type on screen.
- Alexander's main weapons are her buildings. Hold an interface button to read a building's description without pressing it.
The other gestures are on the in-game controls page.
FAQ
Is there a regular US army in Contra 007?
No. The menu has four US generals, and the base America side went to the new General Ironhand with his robots. For the Zero Hour generals see the main wiki, for example the General Granger page.
Who is Ironhand?
A general added by Contra. His army consists of robots and drones: Cyborgs, the Spider Tank, the Fafnir for 7000, and the Hecate and Robo Raptor aircraft. The same general with the same name is in Contra 009, but his army there is different.
How much does the Fafnir cost?
7000 and 70 seconds to build. It has 2150 health, a cannon dealing 36 and a Gauss blaster dealing 200, both with range 250. The shield only covers the robot from the front.
Why doesn't Alexander have tanks?
That's how the mod builds her army. Instead of tanks she has the Shield Generator, the AMOS, the Avenger and aircraft, and her main damage comes from five superweapon and defense buildings.
Does Contra 007 work on a phone?
Yes, in ZeroFront. The mod is in the bot under "Game files & mods" and connects the same way as Zero Hour: the original Generals folder plus the game folder with the mod.
Try ZeroFront on your own phone in the bot @generals_mobile_bot: the first 24 hours are free.
