Dr. Thrax is the GLA toxin general in Zero Hour. He fields poisonous Rebels and Terrorists and a toxic Tunnel Network, and his toxins start at Anthrax Beta strength with an upgrade to Anthrax Gamma. His vehicles cost a bit more, and he has almost no stealth. The numbers below come from the Zero Hour INI files, version 1.04.

Who is Thrax
The game tells you almost nothing about Thrax. On his bio card his age, branch, rank and station are all listed as "Unknown". One thing is known: he mixes deadly toxins and poisons his enemies with them.
His humor is dark. After a win he asks whether you still think his toxins are weak. After a loss he wonders if he shouldn't have earned his degree from a mail-order college.
How Thrax's army differs from GLA
His features on the general card: Toxin Rebels, Toxin Networks, Toxin Terrorists, Anthrax Gamma, tanks that start with Toxin Shells, and toxins that begin as Anthrax Beta.
Compared using the Zero Hour 1.04 files:
| Unit or building | Thrax | Regular GLA | What changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toxin Rebel | 200, toxin 8 / 100, 10 after Gamma | Rebel: 150, rifle 5 / 100 | toxic rounds, +50 cost |
| Toxin Network | 800, toxin 10 / 160, 12.5 after Gamma | Tunnel Network: 800, machine gun 15 / 175 | fires toxins |
| Toxin Tractor | 650, toxin 12.5 / 100, Gamma 20.5 | 600, toxin 10 / 100 | Beta from the start, stronger Gamma |
| RPG Trooper | 300, rocket 40, 52 / 175 after Gamma | 300, 40 / 175 | +30% damage after Gamma |
| SCUD Launcher | 1200, Anthrax only 200 / 350 | 1200, explosive 300 or toxin 200 | one warhead, chemical |
| Demo Trap | 600, 8 s | 400, 5 s | +200 |
| Rocket Buggy | 1100 | 900 | +200 |
| Marauder Tank | 900 | 800 | +100 |
| Scorpion | 650 | 600 | +50 |
| Quad Cannon | 750 | 700 | +50 |
From the first minute Thrax's Toxin Tractor hits for 12.5, as much as a regular one after its upgrade, and after Anthrax Gamma the damage climbs to 20.5. That is double the starting tractor of the regular GLA.

Strengths
- Toxins from the opening minutes: Rebels, tractors and tunnels burn out infantry and garrisons.
- A tunnel poisons infantry that comes close to it.
- Tanks fire Toxin Shells with no separate upgrade.
- An Anthrax SCUD leaves a contaminated zone where infantry can't survive.
Weaknesses
- Toxins barely affect vehicles. Against Kwai's tank army, Thrax relies on Marauders and RPG Troopers.
- No stealth apart from Jarmen Kell, so ambushes built on invisibility don't work.
- Almost every vehicle costs 50–200 more, and the Demo Trap costs 200 more.
- The SCUD has a single chemical warhead; against buildings the explosive one of the regular GLA is stronger.
Other GLA generals: Prince Kassad fights with camouflage, General Juhziz with explosives. Faction tables are on the GLA units page.
Playing Thrax on a phone
Thrax is about controlling the places where enemy infantry sits. On a phone this layout works:
- Toxin Tractors in group "1". Their job is to drive into garrisons and roll over infantry.
- Marauders and RPG Troopers in "2", your answer to enemy vehicles.
- Keep SCUDs separate in "3" and send them with a tap on a cluster of enemy troops.
A double tap on a tractor selects every tractor on screen, so you can gather them into one wave. A double tap on a group slot moves the camera to that squad. The rest of the gestures are on the controls page.
